The most difficult part of interpreting tarot cards is what?

In the process of learning Tarot, the hardest part is often not memorizing the meanings of the cards, but rather "staying honest."

When we do readings for others, especially for ourselves, our hearts tend to have biases. We may desperately want a certain project to succeed or firmly believe that a particular person is the right one. At this moment, our brains automatically activate "selective blindness," only seeing what we want to see and ignoring the real warnings the cards provide. This is the most common blind spot in card interpretation.

How can we create distance and read the truth of the cards like an objective observer? You can pay attention to the following three everyday traps that are easy to fall into:

1. The "Wishful Thinking" Trap

When you are extremely eager for a certain outcome, you will automatically interpret all the cards in a "positive" direction.

  • Real-life situation: The querent asks, "Does he still love me?" and draws the Page of Swords (reversed). This card originally represents suspicion, private inquiries, and communication filled with tension. However, because the querent desperately wants a positive answer, they might comfort themselves by saying, "Ah! It's reversed, which means he's no longer wary of me; he still cares about me in silence!"
  • How to avoid: At the moment of flipping the cards, take a deep breath and tell yourself: "I am here to hear the truth, not just the good news." Strictly interpret according to the original tone of the cards. If the cards are cold, acknowledge that the current situation is indeed cold.

2. The "Fear Magnifier" Trap

This is the exact opposite of the first trap. When you are in a state of extreme anxiety or insecurity, any slightly neutral or challenging card will be magnified into a "doomsday" scenario.

  • Real-life situation: Just doing a routine reading about work development, you draw the Tower or Three of Swords. These two cards do represent change and heartbreak, but often they simply indicate that an old belief needs to be broken, or that there is some friction in communication. An anxious reader might immediately panic: "It's over! Am I going to be fired? Is my life ruined?"
  • How to avoid: Remember, Tarot is a "weather forecast," not a "fate decree." Drawing a card that indicates rain does not mean you will never leave your house; it simply reminds you to "remember to take an umbrella." Shift your focus from "it's over" to "what is the card warning me to prepare for," and you can regain your rationality.

3. Three "Mind Reset Commands" to Make Card Reading Objective

To avoid being hijacked by your own emotions, you can use these three steps to "reset" your brain before each card spread:

  • Step One: Role Reversal (imagine you are reading for a stranger)
    • If you are reading for yourself, close your eyes and imagine: "If these ten cards were drawn by a completely unfamiliar online friend, how would I advise them?" Creating this distance will make your interpretation calm and to the point.
  • Step Two: Present both sides (force yourself to articulate both positives and negatives)
    • No matter how perfect the cards look, ask yourself: "Is it possible that this card is overly optimistic?" No matter how terrible the cards seem, ask yourself: "What opportunity does this low point bring?" Forcing your brain to think beyond black and white will yield more objective answers.
  • Step Three: Document and Reflect (look back after a month)
    • When emotions are too overwhelming and you can't interpret, take a photo of the cards. After a week or a month, when things have developed to a certain point, compare it with the photo. You will be surprised to find: "Wow, the cards were so clear at that time; I was just blinded by my emotions!"

Tarot is a clear mirror that only reflects the true current state. When you find yourself becoming more confused in your interpretations, it is often not that the mirror is dirty, but that your heart is in turmoil. Learn to let go of expectations and calmly accept the hints the cards give you, so you can truly see the next step in life through Tarot.
