Spatial Interaction Logic - Triangular Quadrants and Social Competitiveness

In the system of Zi Wei Dou Shu, the isolated interpretation of a single palace often leads to deviations. The essence of a natal chart is a set of "dynamic balance systems," where any palace is influenced and supported by other specific palaces. To accurately assess a person's social competitiveness, one must learn to observe the palace structure in "groups," namely the core "Three Directions and Four Positions."

1. What are the Three Directions and Four Positions?

The "Three Directions and Four Positions" is the most fundamental spatial geometric structure in chart interpretation. When we select a palace as the "main palace," its influence comes from the following three positions:

  1. Main Palace: The subject of the event.
  2. Opposite Palace (Six Conflicts Position): The palace directly opposite the main palace. It represents the "external environment" and "mirror reflection."
  3. Combined Palaces (Three Harmonies Position): Two palaces that form a 120-degree angle with the main palace's Earthly Branch. They represent "resource connections" and "logical support."

These four palaces combine to form a complete energy matrix.

2. Core of Social Competitiveness: Life, Wealth, Official, Migration

When assessing a person's career achievements and social status, the most commonly observed combination is the Three Directions and Four Positions centered around the "Life Palace," abbreviated as "Life, Wealth, Official, Migration." These four palaces collectively define a person's social competitiveness:

1. Life Palace (Subject): Personality Tone

Represents the individual's basic qualities, talents, and willpower. This is the source of all actions, determining how the individual utilizes the resources at hand.

2. Official Palace (Combined Palace): Work Style and Execution

Located in the clockwise fourth position from the Life Palace. It represents the individual's behavior patterns in the workplace, focus on goals, and fluctuations in career. It supports the social practice of the Life Palace.

3. Wealth Palace (Combined Palace): Resource Acquisition and Financial Perspective

Located in the counterclockwise fourth position from the Life Palace. It represents how the individual transforms talents into economic gains. It supports the material foundation of survival for the Life Palace.

4. Migration Palace (Opposite Palace): Social Resources and External Opportunities

Located directly opposite the Life Palace. It represents the individual's evaluation in the broader social environment, interpersonal opportunities, and the driving force for outward development. The strength of the opposite palace determines whether the individual has enough "stage" to showcase their talents.

3. Practical Interpretation: How to Judge the Stability of the Structure

When observing "Life, Wealth, Official, Migration," the following professional logic should be followed:

1. Integrity of the Structure

If the main star of the Life Palace is weak, but the stars in the Official Palace and Wealth Palace are strong, it indicates that although this person may not have a strong character, their position or economic environment is excellent, belonging to the type of "environment driving the individual." Conversely, if the Life Palace is extremely strong but all three others are weak, it may easily exhibit traits of being talented but unappreciated, or self-admiring.

2. Internal and External Balance

The relationship between the Life Palace and the Migration Palace is a dialogue between "self" and "world."

  • Strong Life, Weak Migration: Suitable for development locally, or focusing on personal expertise without relying on social networks.
  • Strong Migration, Weak Life: Must develop outwardly, achieving self through the driving force of the environment or good interpersonal relationships.

3. Interconnection of Support Points

When we observe the "Wealth Palace," we cannot only look at money. The three positions of the Wealth Palace are "Life Palace, Official Palace, and Fortune Palace." This indicates that a person's financial situation (wealth) is jointly determined by their character (life), work ability (official), and psychological resilience (fortune).

Learning to "view the chart in groups" is a watershed moment from amateur to professional. Through the geometric structure of the Three Directions and Four Positions, we can see the interaction between the variety (Life Palace), soil (Migration Palace), water source (Wealth Palace), and cultivation techniques (Official Palace).

After understanding the spatial interactions of the palaces, readers will be able to more objectively assess the "thickness" of a pattern. In the future, we will further explore what kind of chemical reactions occur when these palaces are placed with specific stars.
